Self Defense Instruction

Personal safety should always be a priority in our lives. We often are distracted by every day events. FBI statistics show that only a very small percentage of attacks against women are committed by sudden, unexpected surprise attacks. Most assaults against women are committed by an acquaintance.

A simple encounter can turn ugly in seconds.  Following a few proven rules can often avoid a physical confrontation. However, knowing what to say and how to say it will not always work. In these situations you must respond with a committed attack.

The Self Defense classes taught by the instructors at Aim and Focus Karate focus on awareness, boundary setting and finally combat defense. These classes are taught in our school as well as "on site" in local businesses. Classes are available from a basic introduction to personal self defense to a full martial arts program. Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated by someone larger, stronger and/or louder. Learn to define what you want and assert yourself to get it.

Defending yourself or a loved one is one of the most intense personal events that could happen in your life.  It can also be one of the most terrifying.  The emotions you will feel will all be extreme.   Most of us hope to never be involved in a physical confrontation, but unfortunately the world we live in often dictates what happens in our lives.  Preparation is the only viable course of action.  The discipline and knowledge that you can defend yourself will bring a sense of confidence.

You must first answer this question: What am I capable of doing to defend myself (or my family/loved ones) ?  The answer does not depend your current self defense skills, but rather your personal convictions.  Could you seriously injure another person?  Could you take a life in defense of your own?  These are questions you must answer before you are faced with a committed attacker.  During the actual conflict is not the time to be struggling with these issues.  Everyone answers these questions differently and the only right answer is the one that you can live with.

The material presented during this course will teach you the basics of personal self defense.  We will explore common attack situations and possible responses.  These situations will progress from simple to life threatening encounters.  Students will practice what they are taught and learn from that experience and instruction.  Controlling your fear is critical in any self defense situation.  You will feel fear, that is certain.  What you do with it will determine the outcome of the encounter.
